New Dispute Resolution Officer, Kim Sullivan

picture of Kim SullivanThe Conflict Management Office welcomes a new Dispute Resolution Officer, Kim Sullivan. Kim moved to Austin from Massachusetts in 2015 and joined UT Austin in May 2016. She is a licensed attorney in both Massachusetts and Texas.

Kim previously worked as a federal tax and labor and employment attorney. She has extensive experience in employee relations, organizational effectiveness training, and alternative dispute resolution models. Kim has worked with a diverse group of employees, managers, and executives in federal, private, and academic sector settings including work in both unionized and non-unionized environments.

Before moving to Texas, Kim taught, coached, and practiced mediation with the Harvard Mediation Program for over five years. She is an Advanced Credentialed Mediator with the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association and is active in the Texas Association of Mediators and State Bar of Texas ADR section.

In addition to servicing the university grievance policy, Kim offers mediation, coaching, and training to the entire staff population. She welcomes early contact with the office to work preemptively towards more effective communication and relationship repair at the earliest signs of discord or conflict. As a neutral third party, she assists departments and individual employees articulate clear performance expectations and plans, offers informal consultations prior to corrective actions, advises where personality clashes exist, and delivers team-building and management best practices training. Initial consultations are kept confidential.

Kim is excited to serve The University of Texas Austin in her new role, and Human Resources is excited to have someone with her background and talents associated with the organization.
