Professional development is the process of continuous learning to meet your career goals and keep your skills relevant for the current workforce. Professional development is different from training. Training teaches you how to perform job functions. Professional development is forward focused and is customized to the individual seeking development. The process of professional development involves:
- Assessing your current career status
- Outlining personal career goals
- Identifying skills and competencies needed to meet your career goals
- Developing a learning plan that includes a mix of on-the-job experience, training, reading and mentoring that will help you build the skills and competencies you identified.
The LinkedIn Learning course entitled "How to Develop your Career Plan" will help you build a career plan.
UTLearn is the The University of Texas at Austin's employee training management system. Employees can search and register for both instructor-led and online courses.
