Preventive Care Incentive Program
What you need to know
About The Program
The Preventive Care Incentive Program (PCIP) is a UT System program administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) that encourages UT SELECT members to complete an annual preventive care exam. The goal is to improve overall health by helping identify potential health concerns early.
Beginning May 2027, a $50 monthly premium differential will apply to each covered employee and covered spouse enrolled in UT SELECT who does not have a qualifying annual preventive care exam on file.
You can have the $50 monthly premium differential waived by completing a qualifying annual preventive care exam between February 1, 2026, and February 28, 2027.
Who Does it Apply to?
The program applies to active employees and spouses who are enrolled in the UT SELECT Medical plan. It does not apply to dependent children, UT System retirees or spouses of retirees, return-to-work retirees, individuals enrolled in UT CARE Medicare, COBRA participants, or surviving dependents.

If You Haven't Had an Annual Preventive Exam Since February 2026
- Step One: Schedule Your Annual Preventive Care Exam
-
Make an appointment with your primary care provider or get help to find one through UT SELECT Concierge.
- Step Two: Confirm Your Visit is Coded as Preventive
-
To count toward the Preventive Care Incentive Program, your visit must be submitted by your provider as an annual preventive care exam or wellness visit. This is usually your yearly checkup, annual physical, or well-woman exam. When scheduling your appointment, ask for an “annual preventive care exam” or “wellness visit.” This helps make sure the visit is submitted correctly.
If you use a BCBSTX network provider, the provider will submit the claim and no additional action is required once the claim is processed.
You do not need to know the medical billing codes, but it is important that your provider understands that the visit should be submitted as preventive care. If you want, you can download current CPT codes to take to your provider and ensure they code it correctly.
- Step Three: Complete Your Exam by the Deadline
-
Complete your annual preventive exam by February 28, 2027 to avoid the premium differential beginning in May 2027.
If You've Already Had a Preventive Annual Exam
- Confirm it Was Coded Correctly
-
You can review your claims history in Blue Access for Members (BAM). If your preventive exam does not appear in your claims history, or if you used an out-of-network provider, contact a BCBSTX UT SELECT Concierge at 866-882-2034 for assistance. The Concierge can help research claims and explain next steps.
